With 2008 already a quarter of the way finished, we still haven’t seen any big name titles, which were also quality titles. Although there is little information about some of them, and a couple might not even release this year, the following is a list of this writer’s opinion and analysis of the big games that could be huge. They will be rated as Flop, Possibly a flop, and Not a flop.
Gears of War 2
Nothing is yet known about this 2006 hit, but with Epic being quoted as saying they’ve only just tapped the power of the Xbox 360, anticipation awaits. Judging from the first Gears, it seems as if the sequel can’t go anywhere but up. With very obvious imperfections in the first, it would seem apparent that if Epic fixed these and added a few extra features, we could have a strong Game of the Year contender. First and foremost, let’s oust that lag? The only thing that puts this writer in doubt is the close proximity in which Gears of War, Unreal Tournament III, and Gears of War 2 are released.
Verdict: Not
Ninja Gaiden 2
A lot of people say Ninja Gaiden didn’t get the success it deserved on the original Xbox, so 2008 will show if Team Ninja can really bring this amazing title to full triple A status. Not being a fan myself, I could go without…but those hack and slash fans on Microsoft’s console definitely have a lot to look forward too. With comparisons to the legendary God of War franchise, the fact that Ninja Gaiden can even be compared to such a game proves its worth.
Verdict: Not
Fable 2
Having recently purchases this Xbox Original; this is another game I will certainly be keeping my eye on. Although I’ve not completed the game, if my addiction to Fable is foreshadowing anything that might come in Fable 2 I’ll have to book a couple days off work when this is released. But a lot of things were promised in the original that didn’t make it, and considering the lack of information that we have on Fable 2…the outlook isn’t positive.
Verdict: Possibly
