With 2008 already a quarter of the way finished, we still haven’t seen any big name titles, which were also quality titles. Although there is little information about some of them, and a couple might not even release this year, the following is a list of this writer’s opinion and analysis of the big games that could be huge. They will be rated as Flop, Possibly a flop, and Not a flop.
Flop or Not is based of quality of game, not sales
Metal Gear Solid 4
Not much to say here. It’s upon us in a mere few weeks and all signs point to go. Although I am a little skeptic about Metal Gear Online being separate, it still seems like it could definitely hold its own. Like Gears of War 2 from the previous list, this one’s a lock.
Verdict: Not
Resistance: Fall of Man 2
I am certain this will be a great game. Resistance: Fall of Man was a good game and some improvements have already been announced and accompanied by beautiful looking teaser trailer. The original proved that Sony’s machine could produce good shooters, but nothing special. I have faith that this one will improve upon the first, but with a parallel release date to Gears of War 2, I fear it won’t even have a chance.
Verdict: Possibly
Killzone 2
Did you complete the first game? I know I didn’t, well…couldn’t. Hyped to be a type of “Halo-killer” the original Killzone failed not only in quality but in sales. Killzone defined the term Flop. This is another game for which not a lot of information is available for and it might not release this year, but unfortunately Killzone 2 is also being glorified. The easily pleased have already made it their game of the year, with only a few trailers and screen shown. But since no major changes have been revealed, and because this writer can look past flash, this verdict was just too easy.
Verdict: Flop
